Serving with us is more than just volunteering; it’s an opportunity to be part of something bigger, building relationships and making a difference through ministry and service. Please note that while we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, we also carefully accept only those volunteers who align closely with our ministry's Christian mission, values, and standards to ensure the safety, integrity, and effectiveness of our programs.
Casual Help Opportunities
At Hope Valley Day Camp, there are many opportunities to serve in casual or one-time roles, perfect for those who want to contribute their time and skills without an ongoing commitment. These roles often support seasonal needs and special events, including:
🛠️ Property Maintenance: Grass cutting, weeding, trimming, and keeping the grounds in great shape.
🧹 Work Party Days: Assisting with cleaning, setup, teardown, and preparing the camp for the season.
🎉 Special Events: Helping with event preparation, cooking, hosting, advertising, and more.
Requirements:
✅ Minimal requirements; tasks are typically supervised by camp staff.
✅ Must agree to adhere to our Code of Conduct.
✅ No direct contact with the vulnerable sector unless advanced screening and training are completed.

Summer Program Staff Opportunities
Junior Staff Discipleship Program
At Hope Valley, our Junior Staff Discipleship Program is more than just a volunteer opportunity—it's a transformative experience where young leaders grow in their faith, character, and leadership skills. Our program is designed to disciple youth in a hands-on, ministry-focused environment, providing intentional mentorship and real-life opportunities to serve others.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Junior Staff members play a vital role in the camp experience, serving in diverse areas such as:
Team Leaders: Directly mentor and disciple campers, leading by example.
Program Assistants: Help run activities, engage with campers, and support programming.
Lifeguards & Activity Leaders: Ensure safety and engagement during pool and recreation times.
Kitchen & Maintenance Helpers: Serve behind the scenes to keep camp running smoothly.
Daycare & Babysitting Support: Assist with staff children, allowing full-time staff to focus on their roles.
Application & Selection Process:
Our discipleship program includes a rigorous selection process to ensure that those who serve are spiritually mature, dedicated to their faith, and ready to lead by example. The process includes:
Commitment to Christian Faith: Must align with our mission and values.
References: One from church leadership and one from a teacher or employer.
Police Check: Required for all staff aged 18 and older, including a vulnerable sector screening.
Phase 1: Online application with questions about faith, experience, and interests.
Phase 2: Interview (via Zoom or in-person) and reference checks.
Training Week: All accepted Junior Staff must attend our Staff Training Week from June 30th to July 4th, 2025.
Commitment & Expectations:
Live at Camp: Junior Staff are required to stay on site during their scheduled weeks, arriving Sundays by 8:00 PM and departing Fridays at 5:30 PM.
Parental Permission: Applicants under 18 must have parental approval and will have their parents contacted to verify permission.
Age Requirement: Applicants must be 13 years of age or older prior to the training week.

Adult Volunteer Opportunities
At Hope Valley Day Camp, adult volunteers play an invaluable role in supporting our mission to share God's love through the Gospel of Jesus Christ while providing a safe, fun, and enriching environment for children and families. Whether you're interested in working directly with campers or offering behind-the-scenes support, there are many ways to serve.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Adult volunteers serve in a variety of capacities, including:
Activity Support: Assisting with specific programs such as sports, crafts, and chapel.
Kitchen & Maintenance Helpers: Providing vital support in meal preparation, facility upkeep, and groundskeeping.
Event Volunteers: Helping with special events, preparation, setup, and hosting.
Administrative Support: Offering skills in office tasks, communication, and planning.

You may be contacted for an interview (in person or by phone) to discuss your suitability for specific roles.
References:
We require three references from outside your family, including:
At least one reference from a Christian Church Leader (Pastor, Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, etc.).
At least one reference from a Teacher, Employer, or another non-family source who can speak to your work ethic, reliability, or service experience.
A Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required for all volunteers aged 18 and older. If needed, you will receive a requisition form as part of Phase 2 of the application process.
Training Requirements:
Staff Training Week: 30 June - 4 July, 2025 (for those taking on significant roles or staying on-site).
One-Day Training Option: For casual or short-term volunteers, covering essential policies including our Plan to Protect protocol and other camp-specific guidelines.
On-Site Expectations:
Depending on your role, you may be required to stay at camp during your volunteer period. Accommodations and schedules will be discussed individually based on availability and your specific contribution.

Full-time Staff Opportunities
Hope Valley Day Camp is seeking a dedicated Facilities Manager to serve in a full-time volunteer capacity. This role is ideal for an individual or couple passionate about Christian ministry, committed to serving the Lord, and equipped with practical skills to maintain our beautiful 100-acre property near Peterborough, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
Property Stewardship: Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of camp facilities and grounds.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable laws and safety standards, including water supply systems and pool maintenance.
Maintenance & Safety: Conduct regular inspections, perform routine maintenance, and address health and safety concerns promptly.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Camp Director, Leadership Team, and volunteers, including training and overseeing maintenance helpers.
Budget Management: Prepare proposals and manage expenses within approved budgets.
We are seeking someone who:
Demonstrates the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) with godly character, patience, and a servant’s heart.
Is spiritually minded, well-organized, and a good communicator.
Has practical maintenance experience (preferred but not required).
Is committed to our Christian mission and Open Brethren values.
Can live on-site or nearby to meet the needs of the camp year-round.
This is a volunteer position, with no salary or honorarium. The Facilities Manager role is part of our faith ministry, trusting the Lord for provision and relying on the support of our community and donors.

For those able to contribute more consistently throughout the year, we welcome ongoing longer term support in a variety of roles, including:

Fundraising & Donor Support: Assisting with initiatives to raise funds and engage with our community.

Follow-Up Program Coordination: Supporting year-round engagement with campers and families.

Skilled Labour Opportunities
Hope Valley Day Camp relies on the generous support of skilled volunteers to help maintain and improve our camp facilities. We continually have property maintenance needs, including:
Repairs and Renovations: General maintenance, fixing equipment, and keeping facilities in top shape.
Rebuilding & Servicing: Maintaining tools, servicing vehicles, and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
Arborist Work: Tree care, trimming, and maintaining safe and beautiful grounds.
New Construction Projects: Contributing expertise in carpentry, masonry, engineering, painting, and finishing.
We do work with trusted contractors and service providers when necessary. However, the countless hours of volunteered skilled labour have allowed us to significantly reduce costs, enabling us to reinvest valuable resources into our core programs and ministry initiatives.
We welcome both skilled tradespeople and general labourers, as there is always meaningful work to be done. Whether you can offer professional expertise or a willingness to lend a hand, every effort helps us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for our campers.
Volunteers are required to adhere to our Code of Conduct and, depending on the role, may need to complete safety training or screening.
